Boyd Holbrook Eyed to Replace Benicio Del Toro in Shane Black's 'Predator'
Movie

The 'Narcos' star will replace the Academy Award-winning actor, who was previously eyed to take the lead role before dropping out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.

AceShowbiz - Boyd Holbrook is in negotiations to headline 20th Century Fox's new "Predator" movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Narcos" star will replace Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, who was previously eyed to take the lead role before dropping out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Plot details are still kept under tight wraps, but director Shane Black previously said that the movie would be more of a sequel instead of a reboot. He liked "the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology rather than hitting the restart button." The helmer will also provide a treatment for the script which is written by his "Monster Squad" (1987) co-scribe Fred Dekker.

Production was expected to begin last month in Vancouver, but it was pushed back to February next year in order to accommodate Del Toro. As Holbrook doesn't have as much star power as the "Sicario" actor, the studio is reportedly planning on beefing up the supporting cast for the action-horror flick which is slated to hit U.S. theaters on February 9, 2018.

Del Toro is set to reprise his role as Alejandro in the second installment of drug war thriller "Sicario", "Soldado". The 49-year-old actor can next be seen in "Star Wars Episode VIII" which is set for a December 15, 2017 release. Meanwhile, Holbrook stars in "Logan" as Donald Pierce, a villain who is described as the ruthless leader of a criminal cyborgs known as The Reavers.
