The music drama starring Luke Wilson and Carla Gugino and exec produced by J.J. Abrams and Winnie Holzman will not return for a second season.

AceShowbiz - It's the end of the road for "Roadies". The music drama created by acclaimed filmmaker Cameron Crowe has been canceled by Showtime after only one season. The show ended its 10-episode run on August 28.

Crowe, who wrote and directed the pilot, writes a statement in a blog regarding the network's decision, "Though we could tell a thousand more stories, this run ends with a complete 10-hour tale of music and love. Like a song that slips under your skin, or a lyric that keeps speaking to you, we hope the spell of 'Roadies' lingers. It was life-changing experience for all of us."

Thanking the cast, crew and musicians involved in the series, he adds, "Big thanks to our fans for watching and cheering us on. We'll see you soon with a new project... and many of the same actors, I'm sure."

With J.J. Abrams and Winnie Holzman among the board of executive producers, the series takes us behind the scenes of the reckless, romantic, funny and often poignant lives of a committed group of rock band "Roadies" who live for music and the de facto family they've formed along the way. It starred Luke Wilson, Carla Gugino and Imogen Poots.

Despite the strong cast ensemble and the hype leading to the series premiere, the show was never off to a strong start, with the June 26 premiere only garnering 499,000 viewers. It, however, maintained a steady number of viewership, with the last episode pulling in 500,000 total viewers counting three days of delayed viewing.

It's the third TV series exploring the business of rock and roll to be canceled in recent months, following HBO's "Vinyl" and FX's "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll". Another music drama "Empire", meanwhile, still survives on FOX.
