AceShowbiz - Will Ferrell has put the production of "Captain Dad" on the brink of falling apart. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 49-year-old actor has pulled out of the indie comedy just days before the filming was set to begin.

The film, which will be directed and written by Sebastian Silva, was scheduled to kick off production on September 26 in and around Cartegena, Colombia. Ferrell's exit has apparently left the helmer and the producers scrambling to figure out the next move.

Several of the cast and crew members are already in Colombia. They are waiting for word on the future of the film which chronicles a family vacation gone awry when the plans break down. It has Michael Cera, Catherine Keener and Jack Kilmer on board to star.

It's unclear if producers Anne Carey, Bingo Gubelmann, Benji Kohn and Austin Stark can get the project back on track as they find it hard to find a suitable replacement for Ferrell to portray the titular dad. Sources with knowledge of the situation fear the project could fall apart.

There is no word on why Ferrell dropped out of the indie film. He is currently on board to star in "Holmes & Watson" alongside John C. Reilly. He can next be seen along with James Franco and Megan Fox in "Zeroville" and will reunite with Mark Wahlberg in "Daddy's Home 2".
