'Fifty Shades Darker' Beats 'The Force Awakens' for Most Watched Trailer in 24 Hours

The first trailer for the follow-up to 'Fifty Shades of Grey' has been viewed 114 million times, 2 million more than the view numbers of the trailer for the seventh 'Star Wars' film in a day.

AceShowbiz - The first trailer for "Fifty Shades Darker" hit the internet on Tuesday, September 13 and has set a new record for most watched trailer. Universal has reported that it's been viewed online 114 million times in the first 24 hours, breaking the previous record set by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer, which had 112 million viewers in its first day.

In the U.S., the trailer for the follow-up to "Fifty Shades of Grey" was watched 39.4 times across all digital platforms, including YouTube and Facebook. Meanwhile, the remaining 74.6 million came from more than 30 international markets, including the U.K. (18.9 million views), Brazil (12.4 million), France (9.8 million), Mexico (6.8 million) and Italy (6 million).

The second installment of the "Fifty Shades" film franchise is scheduled to be released on February 10, 2017 in U.S. theaters. Directed by "House of Cards" helmer James Foley, the film follows Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) who wrestles with his inner demons. Meanwhile, Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) must confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her.

Niall Leonard provides the screenplay based on a novel of the same name by his wife, E.L. James. James also serves as a producer with Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Marcus Viscidi. "Fifty Shades Darker" also sees the return of Kim Basinger, Luke Grimes, Rita Ora, Marcia Gay Harden, Max Martini, Eloise Mumford and Viktor Rasuk. It's supported by Hugh Dancy, Bella Heathcote and Eric Johnson.
