Claiming that he can 'see how this ends,' Damon says that humanity can't even save him from the darkness he has turned to.

AceShowbiz - The CW has released the first promo for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, previewing "the beginning of the end" as Damon (Ian Somerhalder) says it. The elder Salvatore brother is still off on a killing spree and Stefan (Paul Wesley) comes to rescue him, but Damon hints that no one can't save him.

"I've seen how this ends. Humanity can't save me from it," Damon says, adding, "Once the devil comes a-callin', you're done." Stefan is also curious about the vault, asking Damon what's in it, but we don't get the answer in this promo.

Amid the grisly murders committed by Stefan and his partner-in-crime Enzo (Michael Malarkey), we get a glimpse of a steamy moment between Stefan and Caroline.

Executive producer Julie Plec tells TVLine of the dark entity that has been affecting Damon, "This dark turn is different [from previous ones] because of the reason why Damon is dark, and how he feels about where he is in his life. This isn't the Damon who's in it for the thrill and the wicked perverse pleasure; he's doing this for a reason."

The eighth and final season of "The Vampire Diaries" kicks off Friday, October 21 at 8 P.M. ET on The CW. Michael Trevino is set to reprise his role as Tyler Lockwood.
