AceShowbiz - "The Crow" remake will reportedly kick off the production in January with "Game of Thrones" actor Jason Momoa in the lead role. TheWrap reports that Momoa has been tapped to play Eric Draven after a month of speculation. The Khal Drogo depicter recently took to Instagram to share a picture of himself and director Corin Hardy, seemingly confirming that he has closed the deal.

"The Crow" is a remake of Alex Proyas' 1994 classic that was based on James O'Barr's graphic novel. According to sources, the reboot will be a straight adaptation from the comic book rather than Proyas' pic. It follows Eric Draven, a poetic guitarist who is brought back to life by a crow a year after he and his fiancee were murdered.

The release date for the project has yet to be set. The screenplay is provided by "Watchmen" co-scribe Alex Tse and "It Runs in the Family" screenwriter Jesse Wigutow. Edward R. Pressman serves as producer alongside Jeff Most, with Tucker Tooley of Relativity Media executive producing.

The thriller was previously set to start the production in 2015, but was suspended following Relativity's bankruptcy. Before Momoa was eyed for the role, Jack Huston was set to star, but dropped out due to scheduling conflict. Bradley Cooper and Luke Evans were previously attached to portray the leading man as well.

Momoa will step into the role of the un-dead avenger after he wraps filming his part in Warner Bros.' "Justice League" in which he portrays Aquaman. The Hawaiian actor made his debut as the Atlantean hero in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". He will reprise the role in the "Aquaman" solo film which is set to be released on July 27, 2018 in U.S. theaters.
