Trevino is back for the final season of the CW series, reprising his role as Tyler Lockwood who will try to save a spiraling Damon.

AceShowbiz - Michael Trevino is back to "The Vampire Diaries" for its eighth and final season. The actor, who left as the show's series regular in season 6 finale, will reprise his role as Tyler Lockwood, Elena's (Nina Dobrev) friend, starting in episode 3.

According to EW which first broke the news, "Tyler will once again come face-to-face with Damon (Ian Somerhalder), except this time, Damon's mental state is even worse as he continues to spiral out of control after his experience in the vault. Tyler will attempt to talk some sense into Damon by reminding him what and who is important."

Tyler appeared briefly in season 7 as the man responsible for keeping Elena's comatose body safe. Dobrev is also expected to reprise her role as Elena in the final season, as CW President Mark Pedowitz confirmed during the TCA summer press tour in August that "there are discussions going on with Nina" to have her back on the show.

"The Vampire Diaries" kicks off its final season Friday, October 21 at 8 P.M. ET on The CW. E! News has just debuted first pictures from the upcoming season, showing Damon up to his old tricks as he and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) are seen luring a young couple to their human slaughterhouse.

Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Bonnie (Katerina Graham), meanwhile, are teaming up to investigate a new lead in their search for Damon and Enzo. There's also a first look at new character Seline, played by Kristen Gutoskie, who is Alaric (Matt Davis) and Caroline's (Candice King) new nanny.
