Niall Horan has reportedly snubbed her mentor Simon Cowell and decides to release his solo album through Universal.

AceShowbiz - Niall Horan has found a new home for his solo album. According to The Daily Star, he has inked a deal with Universal Music. He was previously rumored to be in talks with Simon Cowell's Syco label, but he apparently ditched his mentor.

"Cowell will be unhappy about it. But Niall's thrilled. He's been telling pals he is really excited about his new music and this solo deal," a source said. "It's anyone's guess where this decision leaves One Direction now."

Rumor has it, Universal's subsidiary label Capitol originally eyed to sign Horan's bandmate Harry Styles, but the boybander who will soon make his movie debut in Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" reportedly chose Sony's Columbia Records.

Like Horan and Styles, Liam Payne is also working on his solo album. He has signed a deal with Capitol UK. Meanwhile, another bandmate Louis Tomlinson is busy with diaper duty after his son Freddie was born.

One Direction showed signs of breakup after Zayn Malik left the group to go solo during their tour last year. The group has since been on hiatus since finishing their tour and releasing their fifth studio album "Made in the A.M."
