Ahead of the film's release, Lucasfilm has revealed that a new astromech droid C2-B5, which looks a lot like the beloved R2-D2, will make his debut in 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'.

AceShowbiz - K-2SO won't be the only new droid introduced in the highly-anticipated "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". Ahead of the film's release, Lucasfilm has revealed that a new astromech droid C2-B5 will also make his debut in the upcoming "Star Wars" stand-alone film. It looks a lot like the beloved R2-D2, but the all-black droid belongs to the Imperial army.

C2-B5 was revealed in the latest episode of "The Star Wars Show". Host Peter Townley explained, "As you may know, the Galactic Empire relies on astromech droids to maintain its machinery. But unlike the Rebel Alliance, the Imperial technicians do not grant their droids independence and subject them to frequent memory wipes to keep them subservient."

It's unclear if the process of memory wiping has something to do with the Rebel Alliance's plans to steal the Death Star, but C2-B5 will likely have an important role in the big scheme to steal the data from the Empire. As for the actor providing the voice of the new all-black droid, it's still kept under wraps. Meanwhile, the voice of K-2SO is provided by Alan Tudyk.

Directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay written by Chris Weitz, the much-awaited "Star Wars" stand-alone movie stars Felicity Jones as the main protagonist Jyn Erso. The film also stars Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen, Jonathan Aris, Jimmy Smits, Genevieve O'Reilly and James Earle Jones.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" follows Jyn Erso, a Rebellion soldier and outlaw who is about to experience her biggest challenge when Mon Mothma (O'Reilly) gives her a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. With the aid of the Rebels, a master swordsman and non-allied forces, Jyn will be in for something bigger than she thinks.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is coming to U.S. theaters this year on December 17.
