The 'X-Men' film franchise filmmaker claims that 'Legion' is designed to be a series that is 'part of the 'X-Men' universe' and 'will relate to future 'X-Men' movies.'

AceShowbiz - Showrunner Noah Hawley previously said that "Legion" would not necessarily connect to the X-Men universe, claiming that the series would serve as a stand-alone piece. However, the "X-Men" film franchise filmmaker Bryan Singer has confirmed that the show will relate in some way to future "X-Men" movies.

At the Edinburgh Television Festival on Thursday, August 25, the filmmaker discussed the TV series which he is executive producing for FX. He claimed that it is designed to be a series that is "part of the 'X-Men' universe, but when you watched it, you wouldn't have to label it, it could exist completely on its own."

The helmer who came to the event with his longtime collaborator Peter Rice, chairman and CEO of 21th Century Fox Networks Group, also said that "Legion" and another planned "X-Men" series "will relate to future 'X-Men' movies" and it would feature a "really ambitious and fun and very unique storyline."

"Legion" introduces the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens) who has struggled with mental illness since he was a teenager. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he's confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

In the Marvel comics, he is the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier. On the TV series, David has a friend named Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), who despite a life of drugs and alcohol abuse, knows that any day now her life is gonna turn around, which gives Lenny the likeable energy of the impossible optimist despite her rough demeanor.
