The Canadian heartthrob, who covers the latest edition of Billboard, takes to Twitter to blast the magazine which claims that 'his fans don't truly know him.'

AceShowbiz - Shawn Mendes isn't too happy with his own interview with Billboard. The Canadian star, who covers the magazine's latest issue, took to Twitter on Thursday, August 25 to blast the publication for writing some misleading comments about his fans.

In the interview, Mendes allegedly told Billboard that "his fans don't truly know him" and that he sometimes felt the need to keep his distance from them. "You're one person," he explained. "You can't let them take everything from you. Because they will - not in a malicious way."

"They just love you. You have to be careful," he continued. "People know me but they have no idea. I can't be best friends with the entire world, I can't fall in love with every girl, I can't be a father figure or older brother figure to every person."

After the interview was published, Mendes immediately clarified in a string of Twitter posts that his comments were either misunderstood or taken out of context. "I have no idea why they would say that. I did not say that!!!" he tweeted.

"I explained how im growing up and so are you guys and how it takes time for you all to fully understand me and me to understand you," he continued and then apologized to his fans, "Its really unfortunate when what you say gets turned into the bad version of it. Im sorry guys."

"And the part that i spoke about how much my fans mean to me and what i owe them is not even touched on," he added. "Again, im sorry. Very frustrated."

In addition to his fans, Mendes talked about his fellow Canadian singer Justin Bieber with Billboard magazine, asking people to stop looking at him negatively. "People thought of [Bieber] as a type of person. But maybe he was the same person the whole time and you guys just didn't give him a chance to show you who he was," the "Stitches" hitmaker said.

"Stop looking at him in a negative view and accept him as who he is. We don't get mad at punk rock bands for doing s**t like [he does], because that's their personality. I just find it very confusing," he continued.
