The 'Suicide Squad' actor apologizes to the father of his former girlfriend for keeping his distance following her tragic death.

AceShowbiz - After holding it off for a long time, Scott Eastwood finally called the father of his former girlfriend Jewel Brangman who died in a car accident. "He said 'I didn't reach out because I didn't know what to say,' " Jewel's dad Alexander told PEOPLE. "He was very apologetic."

Alexander admitted he was "hurt" when Scott kept his distance. "I was disappointed he didn't come to her celebration of life," he said. "Many people were actually disappointed. Many of her friends flew across the country to pay their respects and condolences. There wasn't even a flower sent."

"I don't think he handled the situation properly," Alexander Brangman stated. But he chose to forgive the "Suicide Squad" actor. "When things are low, I choose to rise," he said.

"I was angry - but everybody grieves differently. You know, he's a kid, too. I didn't know what his grieving process is - I'd like to get to know more of what he went through. Because that's a difficult thing," the father added. "Maybe he didn't know how to grieve, and in some ways, I could have helped him. Or could still help him."

Scott Eastwood and Jewel Brangman first met at a San Diego restaurant. They dated for two years but split just a few months before her fatal car crash. "I had never lost someone I had been really intimate with," he said in a GQ interview. "Maybe it's made it harder for me to date."
