Terminally Ill Fan Got Special Screening of 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Before Passing

'Rogue One' was screened early for Neil Hanvey before the official December 27 release by director Gareth Edwards who did all he could to make Saturday, August 20 a very special day for Neil.

AceShowbiz - Neil Hanvey, the terminally ill "Star Wars" fan who got an early screening of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", has passed away. The 36-year-old patient who was told back in April that he had only six to eight months to live died two days after watching the film.

The sad news was broken by St Michael's Hospice on Facebook. The post which was shared on Tuesday, August 23 delivered a message from Hanvey's wife, Andrea. "On behalf of all our family we would like to thank everyone who has passed on their condolences following Neil's death last night," the message read.

"We would also like to thank the tens of thousands of people who supported the #RogueOneWish campaign. All the messages of love during the past week have given us a great deal of comfort during a very difficult time," she continued. "We would also like to thank everyone at St Michael's Hospice, especially Amy Duncan, without who #RogueOneWish would not have happened."

"Rogue One" was screened early for Hanvey before the official December 27 release after an online campaign launched by his wife Andrea and healthcare assistant Amy Duncan went viral and got support from the legendary "Star Wars" actor Mark Hamill who retweeted a Twitter post about the campaign.

Director Gareth Edwards did all he could to make Saturday, August 20 a very special day for Neil. In a previous Facebook post, the hospital's staff thanked the helmer, saying, "Neil, his family and everyone at St Michael's Hospice would like to say thank you to Disney, Lucasfilm and especially Gareth Edwards."
