A campaign launched to support Neil Hanvey who has a dying wish to see 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' has drawn the attention of the legendary 'Star Wars' actor.

AceShowbiz - A terminally ill fan has a dying wish to watch "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" early ahead of its official release in December this year. Back in April, British illustrator Neil Hanvey from Oldham was told that he had six to eight months to live. A campaign was then launched to help him get an early screening of the film in his hospital bed.

Determined to make his last wish come true, his wife Andrea and healthcare assistant Amy Duncan posted on Facebook on Monday, August 15 a campaign to grant Neil his last request. They promoted the campaign message along with the hashtag #RogueOneWish.

Since then, a photo of Neil's colleagues and a video of the St Michael's Hospice staff have surfaced online to support the 36-year-old patient. The campaign has also drawn the attention of the legendary "Star Wars" actor Mark Hamill as he retweeted the post shared by user Terra Vized on Thursday, August 18.

It's not the first time a dying fan wishes to see a film ahead of its release date. Back in 2013, J. J. Abrams facilitated an early screening of "Star Trek Into Darkness" for terminally ill cancer patient Daniel Craft just days before his death. Late last year, it was the second time the helmer granted a dying fan's wish to watch "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" before its official release.

Directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay written by Chris Weitz, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is set to hit U.S. theaters this year on December 17. The upcoming "Star Wars" stand-alone movie stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed and Jonathan Aris.

The much-awaited movie follows Jones' Jyn Erso, a Rebellion soldier and outlaw who is about to experience her biggest challenge when Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) gives her a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. With the aid of the Rebels, a master swordsman and non-allied forces, Jyn will be in for something bigger than she thinks.
