The newly revealed killer was Piper's accomplice in season 1 and he was the 'last surprise' that Piper was about to say before she was shot in the first season finale.

AceShowbiz - "Scream" answered the season-long mystery in the second season finale which aired on Tuesday, August 16. The latest killer is none other than [SPOILER ALERT!] Kieran (Amadeus Serafini), who is the show's main protagonist Emma's (Willa Fitzgerald) boyfriend. The plot twist is a tribute to the first "Scream" film, in which Sidney Prescott was romancing the killer Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich).

In "When a Stranger Calls", Kieran shot his cousin Eli (Sean Grandillo) before he revealed that he was Piper's (Amelia Rose Blaire) accomplice in the first season and he had been dating her before he met Emma. Emma realized that he was the "last surprise" Piper was about to say before Audrey shot her in the first season finale.

Emma and Audrey managed to overpower Kieran during the attack and he was eventually arrested. The season ended with Kieran in jail and receiving a call from someone claiming to be the late Brandon James.

Speaking to TVLine, Serafini said he suspected that his character was the killer in season 1, "but then that changed. From then forth, I just decided I was going to stick to the words in the script and not give anything away." Thus, he was "shocked" when finding out that he had been working with Piper in the first season. "I went through the whole season believing I was the heroic character - and that wasn't the case," he said.

While Piper was killed in the first season finale, Kieran is still alive. Asked what this meant for Kieran's future, Serafini told THR, "It's a dark horizon. I really don't know. I don't know what's going to be going on with a third season, whether there will or won't be [one]. And as for what's going to happen with my character, I do not know."

Serafini also commented on the phone call Kieran received in the last scene of the finale. "That seems promising, right? Is Brandon James really out there? I don't know," he coyly said. "It's been an exciting ride and I hope it continues. I wonder what Kieran will do now that he's in prison. I wonder what his capture will do to him. I hope we get to show that."
