The 'Community' actor might be the frontrunner to star as the young smuggler, who is also Han Solo's friend, in the second 'Star Wars' stand-alone movie.

AceShowbiz - The second "Star Wars" stand-alone movie is reportedly looking for a potential actor to portray young Lando Calrissian. According to Birth.Movies.Death., Donald Glover is the frontrunner to star as the young gambler to accompany young Han Solo, who will be played by Alden Ehrenreich, in the untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II.

No official casting offer is confirmed yet as Lucasfilm hasn't given any information regarding the casting decision. However, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller did recall how Ehrenreich was the first actor to audition and became their first choice to take the role of young Han Solo. If the "Community" actor is singled out as the frontrunner to play the iconic smuggler, he will likely get the part.

The Cloud City cassanova was originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back" and 1983's "Return of the Jedi" alongside Harrison Ford's Han Solo and Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker. It was known that Lando was the original owner of the Millenium Falcon before Han won it "fair and square" in a game.

Plot details for the upcoming film are still kept under wraps, but it is described as an origin story about Han Solo and his best buddy Chewbacca. Lord and Miller will direct the film from a screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. The filming is set to start next January for a May 25, 2018 release in U.S. theaters.
