Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will re-team up in the newly-titled 'Bad Boys for Life' which is scheduled for a January 2, 2018 release in U.S. theaters.

AceShowbiz - Sony has changed the title and delayed the release date of the long-in-development film "Bad Boys 3". The newly-titled "Bad Boys for Life" was originally slated to hit U.S. theater on February 17, 2017 before shifted to June 2, 2017. And now the studio has pushed back the release date to January 2, 2018.

With the new release date, the third installment of the "Bad Boys" film series will be up against Fox's "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" and Paramount's animated film "Gnomeo and Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes". The studio has yet to settle on a production start date, but it's been confirmed that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will re-team up in the third film.

Jerry Bruckheimer is expected to return as producer, with Columbia Pictures handling the distribution. "Safe House" scribe David Guggenheim is set to pen the screenplay. The director on board to helm the film is Joe Carnahan who directed Liam Neeson in 2010's "The A-Team" and 2014's "The Grey". The upcoming film is supported by John West Jr. and Derrick Gilbert.

The first two installments of the buddy-cop film series headlined by Smith and Lawrence were directed by Michael Bay. "Bad Boys" was released in 1995, while "Bad Boys 2" debuted in 2003. Despite negative reviews, the second comedy film was a box office success, grossing $270 million worldwide. Though Bay will neither direct nor produce the third film, he is expected to produce "Bad Boys 4".
