Britney was previously rumored as the first performer at the upcoming VMAs after she canceled two "Piece of Me" shows in Las Vegas on the same weekend as the event.
The 2016 VMAs will air live from Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday, August 28. On August 9, MTV premiered the first promo of the VMAs with the title "The Canvas Is Ready" as they're "waiting for artist to make their mark."
