Daisy Ridley Deletes Instagram Account After Backlash Over Anti-Gun Comments

The 'Star Wars' actress removed her account after some people slammed her for talking about anti-gun violence while her character in the movie uses guns to kill people.

AceShowbiz - Daisy Ridley is no longer on Instagram. The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star abruptly deleted her account earlier this week after a bunch of haters criticized her for her anti-gun violence post.

Prior to quitting the social media, Ridley shared on Monday, August 1 her opinion on a segment at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards during which Jessica Alba and Ne-Yo led an emotional tribute to gun violence victims.

"Thinking about how lucky I am like ... Serious bit: as I sat in the audience yesterday tears were streaming down my face at the tribute to those that have been lost to gun violence. I didn't get a great picture of the incredible group that came on stage but they were so brave. It was a true moment of togetherness. We must #stoptheviolence," she wrote at the time.

Her remarks, however, didn't sit well with a lot of other Instagram users who called her a hypocrite. "Says the woman who kills people with guns in movies. Such hypocrisy in Hollywood. Just shut up, Ridley and make another 'Star Wars' movie," one critic commented. Another similarly added, "Sorry, didn't I see you using a blaster in 'Star Wars Episode VII'? Get outta here, you're no better than Matt Damon. I might have to unfollow your page."

After deleting her Instagram account, Ridley also deleted the same post on her Facebook page. She, however, briefly resurfaced on Instagram to explain why she decided to leave it.

"Hey y'all! Just wanted to explain the hiatus... I just want to be on my phone less! Trying to be more present and all that and got a busy few months ahead so wanted less distractions... It's all good!" she wrote in a post that has now been removed too. "I always appreciate the support and love the Instagram community! X."
