" 'Preacher' is a special television program and we're eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season," AMC president Charlie Collier said in a statement on Wednesday, June 29. "What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis' graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond."

Starring Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun, "Preacher" has faced stiff competition from HBO's "Game of Thrones" on Sundays at 9 P.M. AMC will air a marathon of the first five episodes Thursday, June 30 at 9 P.M.

Over at other network, "12 Monkeys" is also renewed for another season by Syfy. The time-travel thriller, which is based on the 1995 feature film of the same title, will return for a 10-episode third season.

"In two short seasons, '12 Monkeys' has become a cult favorite series," said Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. "Terry and the cast and crew have brought to life a rich world not confined by boundaries of time, with multi-dimensional characters whose motivations for saving the world are deeply personal and intensely relatable. It's exactly the type of smart, on-the-edge-of-your-seat entertainment we want to bring to Syfy viewers."
