AceShowbiz - The 2016 BET Awards officially kicked off at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 26. Beyonce Knowles surprised everyone when she opened the festivity with a performance of "Freedom" from her latest album, "Lemonade".

Queen Bey was accompanied by some dancers while she performed in a giant pool of water on the red-lit stage. The surprise didn't stop there as Kendrick Lamar later joined her to rap his verse on the song live.

The first award during the telecast went to Drake and Future. The "What a Time to Be Alive" collaborators won the Best Group title over 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne a.k.a. Collegrove, P. Diddy and The Family, Rae Sremmurd and The Internet. DJ Esco came out to collect the trophy from presenter Taraji P. Henson on behalf of Drizzy and Future.

Following a performance from Bibi Bourelly, Bryson Tiller was announced as the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, the prize also vied by fellow nominees Chris Brown, Jeremih, The Weeknd and Tyrese Gibson.

Other names already on the winner list include Michael B. Jordan and "Empire" star Henson, who took home the Best Actor and Best Actress Awards respectively. More winners will be announced as the show unfolds.
