'Rogue One' Reshoots Do Not Change Its Dark Tone

The upcoming stand-alone 'Star Wars' movie underwent reshoots in an attempt to make it the greatest film without changing its dark tone.

AceShowbiz - It was recently reported that "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" underwent reshoots to change the tone from heavy war film to a light-hearted caper. However, the film creators confirm in an interview with EW that it's not entirely true.

Speaking to the site, director Gareth Edwards explains it was always part of the plan to do reshoots. "We always knew we were coming back somewhere to do stuff. We just didn't know what it would be until we started sculpting the film in the edit," he says.

According to him, retooling is an important part of making a good movie. "A film is a very creative, organic process, and it evolves over time. There's no right or wrong. There's just 'better' and 'best', and with 'Star Wars', nothing but the best is going to do. So we're just putting a lot of pressure on ourselves until the very end, making this the greatest film it can be," he says.

The director finds it difficult to get all the cast back to film the scenes. "Obviously, you've got to work around everyone's schedule, and everyone's on different films all over the world, and so it's a bit of a logistical nightmare, that's why I think it's been blown out of proportion a little bit," he elaborates.

The chief of Lucasfilm and the producer of the movie, Kathleen Kennedy, insists that the tone of the movie is not being altered. "There's nothing about the story that's changing, with a few things that we're picking up in additional photography," she says.

The edit is expected to be completed in August, with Alexandre Desplat scoring and adding the sound effect in September. The film is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on December 16.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" follows Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso, a Rebellion soldier and criminal, who is about to experience her biggest challenge on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. With the aid of the Rebels, a master swordsman, and non-allied forces, Jyn will be in for something bigger than she thinks.
