The CW series is reportedly casting a major recurring character who is described as slightly older, slightly geekier contemporary of Barry.

AceShowbiz - Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) may meet his equal adversary in the next season of "The Flash". While The CW has not released any official details of the upcoming third season, TVLine has learned that the show's currently looking for an actor to play a villain who sounds a lot like Barry.

As described by the site, the major recurring character is "slightly older, slightly geekier contemporary" of Barry, "a guy who is as smart as he is intuitive." Though so, he "doesn't buy Barry's nice guy routine and sets out to learn what he's hiding - all while concealing some secrets of his own...." It is believed that the said character will not be the season's big bad.

Meanwhile, the second season finale introduced another speedster, the real Jay Garrick from Earth-3 played by John Wesley Shipp, who had been held prisoner by Zoom in his lair on Earth-2. Shipp, who played The Flash on the 1990s TV series, appeared earlier in the season as Barry's father Henry Allen before he was killed by Zoom.

Speaking of Barry's relationship with the real Jay, Shipp told The Hollywood Reporter in May, "He [Barry] wants to have the same relationship with Jay that he had with his father, but Jay is coming from place of, 'That has nothing to do with who I am.' " He added, "This isn't the Henry/Barry relationship in another form. Jay is a very different guy."

"The Flash" returns with the new season this fall on The CW.
