The 'Supergirl' actor claims his lesbian cousin Sarah was sent to a Christian facility without communication to the outside world.

AceShowbiz - Jeremy Jordan (II) caused a stir online after he claimed that his cousin Sarah was sent to a gay conversion therapy for being a lesbian. The "Supergirl" actor wrote on Facebook and GoFundMe that his cousin was held against her will at the religious facility Heartlight Ministries.

"I can't believe beautiful, smart, incredible kids like my cousin Sarah are still being told that being gay is wrong. But it's worse than that for Sarah," he said. "She's been placed at a remote boarding facility to help 'pray away the gay' for a year with no communication to the outside world."

Jordan also posted pictures of Sarah with her girlfriend. According to him, Sarah's parents sent her to a Christian camp because she wanted to go to prom with the other girl. She had tried to escape from the institution but got caught by the staff. Over $41,000 in donation has been raised online to help her.

Sarah's mother admitted in an interview with the Austin American-Statesman that her daughter enrolled to Heartlight Ministries in Texas, but she insisted that it had "nothing to do with her sexuality." Instead, the mother claimed that her daughter was dealing with depression.

The Texas camp also denied Jordan's claim that it was practicing gay conversion. "It is disheartening to see that this young woman has had elements of her story made widely public without her consent," Mark Gregston, Founder and Executive Director of Heartlight Ministries, told PEOPLE.

"The assertion that this teen was held at Heartlight Ministries against her will, or that Heartlight provides any 'treatment' services for sexual identity, are categorically untrue," Gregston continued. It was a "residential counseling program for teenagers who struggle with a wide range of behavioral and emotional issues," he said.

Sarah was "no longer" at Heartlight, but "should she ever personally choose to return, we would welcome her with open arms."
