The third installment of the Disney-Pixar animated movie franchise will introduce a new character, the sleek, yellow Cruz Ramirez who will help Lightning McQueen prepare for the Florida 500.

AceShowbiz - Disney-Pixar has released first sneak peeks of the upcoming "Cars 3". The images are concept arts depicting Lightning McQueen and a brand new character, the sleek, yellow Cruz Ramirez who is described as a young Hispanic female race car.

Her role in the movie is to instruct McQueen as he prepares for the Florida 500, "which is like the Daytona 500," according to USA Today. "Cruz Ramirez is trying to figure out how this old dog can learn some new tricks," says director Brian Fee.

McQueen debuted in 2006's "Cars" as a rookie in the racing world, but in the third movie he has progressed beyond veteran status. "Think of where he'd be in his career now in real time," Fee explains. "(McQueen) is not an old man, but he's one of the older cars on the circuit with new rookies coming in. People start to wonder and ask when he might retire."

These questions grow louder after newcomer Jackson Storm beats him. Fee says, "Jackson Storm is the face of these rookies who have come onto the scene. And McQueen is in a position where his entire racing generation is being pushed out. But it's too early to be shown the door right now."

That's why McQueen needs the help of Ramirez. "Everyone can relate to feeling like someone is at their heels, that they might be a little outdated in something they used to be very good at, feeling an expiration date. And knowing you need someone to help you get a second chance," Fee says.

The movie will mark Fee's directorial debut after serving as storyboard animator in "Cars" and "Cars 2". Owen Wilson is back as the voice of McQueen. Other returning characters include Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), Sally Carrera (Bonnie Hunt) and Ramone (Cheech Marin).

New voice cast is yet to be announced. "Cars 3" is scheduled for release June 16, 2017 in the U.S.
