John Carpenter, who directed the 1978 first film, will executive produce the new pic and 'help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all.'

AceShowbiz - Another "Halloween (2017)" film is officially underway. On Monday night, May 23, Blumhouse, Miramax and Trancas International Films jointly announced that they're teaming up for a new installment that would be scarier than its predecessors.

Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions and Malek Akkad of Trancas will produce the upcoming horror flick. John Carpenter, the filmmaker behind the original film released in 1978, is also involved in the new project to serve as an executive producer and possibly do the score.

"Thirty eight years after the original 'Halloween'," said Carpenter during a press gathering at Blumhouse Productions offices in Los Angeles, "I'm going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all."

Malek Akkad, the son of the original film's producer Moustapha Akkad, also expressed his excitement, saying that the new "Halloween" would be "a milestone in the franchise's legacy and that will excite the fans, young and old."

No official release date has been set, but the film is expected to be ready for Halloween 2017. Miramax, which holds worldwide distribution rights, will determine its theatrical distribution partner at a future date.
