Shooting down the rumors started by his own bandmate Brad Whitford, Joe Perry says, 'Any rumor out there about us looking for another singer is completely untrue.'

AceShowbiz - Aerosmith fans can now rest assured knowing that Steven Tyler is still part of the group. In a statement issued Friday, May 20, the band shot down swirling rumors that they're looking for a new singer to replace the frontman.

"Any rumor out there about us looking for another singer is completely untrue," guitarist Joe Perry said. "All five of us were just on the phone together talking about how excited we are to go to South America and Mexico City." The group is set to embark on their Latin American tour in September.

Rumors about Aerosmith planning to replace Tyler were interestingly started by his own bandmate, guitarist Brad Whitford. In an interview with Metal Rules earlier this month, Whitford said he and the other band members considered following in the footsteps of AC/DC to go on tour with another singer.

"Absolutely, we have considered it - but whether it will happen, I don't know. I think it would be great," he said. Asked which singer he'd like to see fronting the band, he replied, "A lot of people, everybody from Myles Kennedy to [Axl Rose]. We had a bunch of people a while ago like Sammy Hagar. It would be a lot of fun."

Whitford has apparently been unhappy with Tyler's solo career. In a chat with Billboard last year, he revealed what he really felt about Tyler having spent a lot of time in Nashville working on his country music.

"It's unfortunate. We kind of feel a little bit abandoned by him," he shared. "I guess he seems to think his solo career is going to go great guns, and he doesn't seem to realize that - in my opinion - his fans around the globe want to see him in the context of Aerosmith and don't really care for whatever he thinks he's gonna do."

"I don't know if he gets that but, hey, that's what he wants to do. I can't put a gun to his head. It's just pretty disappointing," he added.
