'Project Runway All Stars' Season 5 Finale: Who Is the Winner?
TV

Ken Laurence, Dom Streater and Kini Zamora are left standing in the season finale, but only one walks home with the grand prize.

AceShowbiz - It all came down to this moment in the "Project Runway All Stars" season 5 finale that aired on Thursday night, May 5. Three remaining designers Ken Laurence, Dom Streater and Kini Zamora were battling it out for the winning title during their second chance on the Lifetime reality competition series.

At the beginning of the episode, the three designers met Alyssa Milano at One World Trade Center. They were given the final challenge, which was to create an 8-piece collection, including one menswear look, that draws upon the experiences of New York City. They had four days and $3,000 each to complete it.

Kini wanted to design for an uptown girl who hangs out downtown, or as he said, "a Park Avenue princess who likes to use funky silhouettes." Ken's design incorporated the "elegance and architectural elements" of the city. Dom's collection was inspired by the "shock to her senses" she experienced when she first came to New York.

As always, time was the biggest challenge for the designers. Fortunately, on Day 2 and Day 3, Layana Aguilar, Alexander Pope and Asha Daniels came to help them, being paired with each of the finalists.

On the final runway, Debra Messing and Marie Claire editor in chief Anne Fulenwider were tapped as the guest judges. Isaac Mizrahi said he was getting "emotional" over Dom's work, and Debra said the first look was "magical." But most of the judges complained about the final piece which seemed to be unfinished.

Isaac thought Ken's collection was the most commercial. Anne said the collection felt successful, but there's no wow. Alyssa disagreed and praised Ken for taking a lot of risks.

Kini's geometric and plaid collection made Alyssa smile. Isaac called the work "refreshing" and "divine," while Anne said the collection gave her a very '80s vibe.

After some deliberation, the judges narrowed it down to Kini and Dom. Kini was later announced as the runner-up, so Dom became the winner of the competition. She won a cash prize of $100,000, a fashion spread in Marie Claire and a position at the magazine as Contributing Editor, a complete sewing studio to launch her winning line from Brothers Sewing and Embroidery, a capsule footwear collection by Chinese Laundry and the opportunity to design an exclusive line of jewelry for BaubleBar.com.
