The 'SOA' creator gives an update on the spin-off focusing on the Mayans, saying that it 'just got one step closer.'

AceShowbiz - It has been a while since we last heard of the possible "Sons of Anarchy" spin-off. Kurt Sutter has now given an update on the project focusing on the Mayan Motorcycle Club, indicating that it is moving forward and closer to happening.

"Mayans MC spinoff just got one step closer," the "SOA" series creator tweeted on Tuesday, April 26. He went on teasing fans about the story, "I'm very excited about this story. Dark and beautiful," adding the hashtag "MayansMC."

The Mayans are the biker gang led by president Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) who were the main antagonists during the first two seasons. Sutter previously said that the spin-off would not be a prequel, but a contemporary story that could include some characters from the original FX series.

"I would do a contemporary piece, not a prequel, and place it far enough away from Northern California that it wouldn't step on the mythology that's already been told," he said last September, adding, "It doesn't mean that there couldn't be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed."
