New 'Independence Day: Resurgence' Trailer Finds a Way to Include Will Smith
Movie

Jessie Usher's Dylan Hiller, the son of Smith's character Steven, and Liam Hemsworth's Jake Morrison are part of Earth Space Defense who will stand on the first line in the new battle against aliens.

AceShowbiz - Just in time for Earth Day, 20th Century Fox has unleashed a new trailer for "Independence Day: Resurgence". It gets us feeling nostalgic as soon as it starts by featuring Bill Pullman's Thomas J. Whitmore, former president of the U.S., who is one of the original characters from the first movie.

It then cuts to a scene showing thousands of people gathering at a field to commemorate their win against aliens who tried to invade Earth 20 years ago. Will Smith's Steven Hiller even makes an appearance in the form of a photo as Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson remembers him as "the bravest man" he's ever seen.

Now, his son Dylan Dubrow-Hiller (Jessie Usher), a pilot in ESD, must face the same battle when aliens in deep space receive a distress signal sent before the other battalions' final defeat on Earth decades ago. Fellow ESD pilot Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth) is another lead protagonist in the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster movie.

The official description for the movie reads, "We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."

It will invade theaters across the U.S. on June 24. Roland Emmerich is back as the helmer.
