The former 'Vampire Diaries' star is reportedly in talks to play an overachieving student named Marlo alongside Ellen Page and Diego Luna in the remake of the 1990 classic.

AceShowbiz - Nina Dobrev is wanted for Sony Pictures' remake of "Flatliners". Deadline reports that the former "The Vampire Diaries" star is currently in talks to join the sci-fi medical thriller as Marlo, an overachieving student who is at the top of her class.

Set to be directed by Niels Arden Oplev ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"), the movie will be based on the original which followed a group of medical students and close friends who experimented with near death experiences that involved past tragedies until the dark consequences began to jeopardize their lives.

Boasting a screenplay from "Source Code" scribe Ben Ripley, the remake will also star Ellen Page and Diego Luna. Production is expected to start in early July, but no official release date has been set.

The original "Flatliners" was released in 1990 and starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt. It was directed by Joel Schumacher and written by Peter Filardi.

Dobrev left "Vampire Diaries" last year to pursue a full-time career in movies. She is now busy filming "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage". The 27-year-old star apparently had a minor incident on the filming set recently and was left with a bloodied and bruised thigh that she showed off in an Instagram photo.

"Movies may not be real but this is. The things we do for our craft ! But hey, the way I see it, it's a small price to pay to get to do what you love!" she captioned the snap posted on Wednesday, April 20. "I've always wanted to be in an Action Movie... be careful what you wish for! #NoPainNoGain #ItAintEasyBeingABadass #XXXtheMovie."

The third "XXX" movie is scheduled for release in the U.S. early next year. It will also star Vin Diesel, Deepika Padukone and Ruby Rose among others.
