AceShowbiz - Jackie Earle Haley is the ultimate villain. The Oscar-nominated actor is set to be the big baddie in Sony Pictures' fantasy thriller "The Dark Tower" and Amazon's pilot "The Tick". His involvement in "Dark Tower" is still in negotiations stage while his regular role in the comic book adaptation pilot is a done deal.

In the Stephen King fantasy movie, Haley's eyed to portray Richard Sayre, the fearsome vampire leader. He will join Idris Elba, who's playing Roland Deschain aka the Gunslinger, and Matthew McConaughey, who is touted to be the villainous Walter Padick aka the Man in Black.

The film centers on Deschain who roams an Old West-like landscape in search of a dark tower, which is rumored to be a magical portal to other worlds. Nikolaj Arcel is directing the pic and co-writing the script with Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. "The Dark Tower" will open in U.S. theaters February 17, 2017.

Meanwhile, "The Tick" is a reboot based on Ben Edlund's comic book character. FOX made a live-action series based on the character in 2001 but it only lasted nine episodes. This Amazon version features an all-new cast which includes Peter Serafinowicz in the titular character. The blue-suited Tick is recovering from a memory loss and ends up reteaming with his sidekick Arthur (Griffin Newman) to fight evil.

According to Deadline, Haley is portraying The Terror, a powerful super villain and the leader of the evil league in the comics. His character is "our world's epitome of the criminal mastermind, a hooded ancient villain barking at his minions whose incredible will power and tenacity have powered an underworld syndicate for decades."

The pilot will be directed by "Transcendence" helmer Wally Pfister. No more information about the new incarnation is available.
