Avicii Announces Retirement From Touring at Age 26

The Swedish DJ whose real name is Tim Bergling will no longer perform live after playing his last show this year.

AceShowbiz - Avicii will stop performing live after his last show this year. The Swedish EDM artist whose real name is Tim Bergling announces his retirement at the young age of 26 after repeatedly dealing with health issues while on the road in the past.

The DJ had his gall bladder and appendix removed in 2014. He was also diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, which he blamed on his non-stop partying lifestyle. He additionally canceled his shows last year for "a well deserved break."

Avicii says in an open letter on his website, "My choices and career have never been driven by material things, although I'm grateful for all the opportunities and comforts my success has availed me. I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist."

He reveals, "Two weeks ago, I took the time to drive across the U.S. with my friends and team, to just look and see and think about things in a new way. It really helped me realize that I needed to make the change that I'd been struggling with for a while."

"I will however never let go of music," he adds. "I will continue to speak to my fans through it, but I've decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows. Let's make them go out with a bang! One part of me can never say never, I could be back ... but I won't be right back."

Avicii has worked with David Guetta and Coldplay among other stars. He has released two albums, "True" in 2013 and "Stories" in 2015. He is scheduled to play Electric Daisy Carnival U.K. and Creamfields dance festival in August. In the meantime, he's heading to Dubai and Bahrain.

Fellow DJ Steve Angello, former Swedish House Mafia member, reached out to Avicii on Twitter following the latter's announcement. "Read your post on touring," he tweeted. "I know how hard the decision was but I also know how right it felt once you figured it out. Much love."
