The Grammy-winning singer revealed that she and her then-partner Julie Cypher almost asked the 'Big Short' actor to be the sperm donor for their two children.

AceShowbiz - Brad Pitt could have been a father long before he had a child with Angelina Jolie. Melissa Etheridge opened up about selecting a sperm donor for her two children and she said that the 52-year-old actor was indeed in contention.

In a new interview with Australia's Studio 10 talk show, the rock singer revealed that she and her then-partner Julie Cypher looked for a sperm donor for their children back in late '90s. Etheridge then admitted that she and Chyper considered asking Pitt to be the biological father. "Well, actually, [Brad Pitt] was such a good friend of mine. And we did consider it," the singer said.

However, they ended up choosing another man to give his sperm. "And yet, I looked and I saw how badly he wanted children and I thought, 'I don't want to share this with someone who really, badly wants children because my children don't need another parent - they have two,' " she explained.

Etheridge said that she finally chose David Crosby, the member of Crosby, Stills & Nash. She gave birth to daughter Bailey in 1977 and son Beckett in 1998. "It's one of the reasons why David Crosby and his wife are so perfect - because they [already] had children. They were looking to do this as a gift," Etheridge continued.

She also revealed that their children would actually be very happy if their father was Pitt. "Of course, my teenagers now are like, 'I could have had Brad Pitt [as my dad]!' My son said, 'I could've been amazingly handsome,' " she shared.

Etheridge and Pitt were close friends and she even performed at "The Big Short" actor's wedding to Jennifer Aniston in 2000. However, the Grammy winner recently admitted that she had not spoken to Pitt in almost a decade.
