James Wan: 'Aquaman' Will Have Fun Tone and 'Badass' Character
Movie

While the comic character is often overlooked for his ability, the director wants to present 'a really different, cool, badass side' of him in the movie.

AceShowbiz - Contrary to Jason Momoa's chiseled features, "Aquaman" will be a fun movie. Director James Wan emphasized during Saturday, March 26 WonderCon panel that it's important to have the element of fun in every projects he makes.

Wan was explaining to IGN about how dark his two horror films "Lights Out" and "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist" would be when he said, "The kind of filmmaker that I am, you know, even my darker horror films generally are still very fun, and I think that's important."

He went on explaining, "I think Aquaman is a character that is, you know, a lot of people have made fun of over the years, and I just think it's fun to actually show a really different, cool, badass side to this character, but at the same time, let's not forget to have fun with it."

DC's chief creative officer Geoff Johns seems to back this plan. "It's massive [seeing Aquaman on the big screen]. Jason and I were talking about Aquaman, and I love that people underestimate the character. I feel like hopefully we'll be able to share the love that we have as readers of the character because the jokes about him are fun, but he's got so much depth to him, no pun intended. It's really great to see him finally on the big screen," he said in a recent interview with Comicbook.com.

Momoa made his debut as the undersea explorer in Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". He will next appear in "Justice League Part One", which hits theaters November 17, 2017, before making a solo appearance in the Wan-directed film on July 27, 2018.
