Eight songs off the project were recorded between 2013 to 2016 and the Compton rapper has performed some of them on various shows including 'Tonight Show' and the Grammys.

AceShowbiz - Kendrick Lamar has officially released his surprise new album, "untitled unmastered.". After its artwork and tracklist hit the web via Spotify earlier on Thursday, March 3, the rapper dropped the project in its entirety on the service as well as on iTunes later at midnight.

As previously reported, the set includes 8 untitled songs which were recorded between 2013 to 2016. The Compton native has performed some of them live on various TV shows like "The Colbert Report", "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and the 2016 Grammy Awards.

To many fans, the album might have come out of nowehere. When TDE CEO Anthony Tiffith announced earlier this week his plan to release something from one of his artists, many expected it would be new music from Lamar's labelmates like SchoolBoy Q, SZA or Ab-Soul. However, no one really minds getting a bunch of new Kendrick Lamar songs.

The 28-year-old MC is still enjoying the success of his critically-acclaimed 2015 LP, "To Pimp a Butterfly". The record helped him win multiple awards at last month's Grammys, during which he also delivered racially-charged performances of "The Blacker the Berry" and "Alright".
