AceShowbiz - "American Horror Story" star Sarah Paulson says that she is a fluid person when it comes to sexual preferences. The 41-year-old actress finally confirms that she and 73-year-old actress Holland Taylor are dating and admits that they are "in love."
Rumors of them dating began surfacing in early December 2015, just a month after Holland hinted in a radio interview that "there's a very big age difference between us which I'm sure shocks a lot of people, and it startles me." People had been giving them love and support after the revelation.
In a new interview with NY Times, Paulson said she found the sudden attention "surreal." She explained, "My choices in romantic partners have not been conventional, and therefore the idea that it is 'other' makes it compelling." She had dated actress Cherry Jones for seven years before and was once engaged to actor Tracy Letts. All of her lovers are significantly older than her.
Paulson met Taylor about ten years ago at a dinner party and thought that the "Two and a Half Men" star was "probably the most exquisitely beautiful woman I'd ever seen." They started following each other on Twitter and exchanged messages before arranging a dinner date. The relationship has been going on for a little more than a year now.
"If my life choices had to be predicated based on what was expected of me from a community on either side, that's going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don't want to feel that," she said. "What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor."
Regarding her tendency to date older people, Paulson explained, "I had a complicated home life, and my teachers, predominantly my theater teachers and my English teachers, were very dedicated to taking care of me in a particular way. And in doing so, I think I developed a very easy rapport with people older than myself."
She continued, "There's a poignancy to being with someone older. I think there's a greater appreciation of time and what you have together and what's important, and it can make the little things seem very small. It puts a kind of sharp light mixed with a sort of diffused light on something. I can't say it any other way than there's a poignancy to it, and a heightened sense of time and the value of time."
