He also dedicated his win to LGBT community, "I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community around the world ... We can all stand together as winners."

Smith took the stage earlier that night to perform "Writing's on the Wall".

Alejandro G. Inarritu was the next winner taking the stage that night. He accepted the trophy for Best Director for his work on "The Revenant". He edged out Adam McKay ("The Big Short"), George Miller ("Mad Max: Fury Road"), Lenny Abrahamson ("Room") and Tom McCarthy ("Spotlight") for the honor.

"I can't believe this is happening," he said. "It's amazing to receive this award tonight but it's much more beautiful for me to share it with the talented cast and crew members," he said, before praising the movie's star Leonardo DiCaprio, "Leo, you are The Revenant."
