'Pacific Rim 2' On Track With New Director
Movie

'Spartacus' creator Steven S. DeKnight is tapped to helm the sequel to the 2013 sci-fi movie, replacing Guillermo del Toro.

AceShowbiz - Guillermo del Toro is no longer on board "Pacific Rim 2" as a director, but don't worry because Legendary Pictures has tapped a new helmer for the project. Steven S. DeKnight, who created Starz's TV series "Spartacus", is set to make his feature directorial debut with the follow-up to the 2013 sci-fi movie, Deadline reports.

The current script was written by Jon Spaihts based on characters created by Travis Beacham and del Toro. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro and Mary Parent are producing, with Jillian Share as executive producer.

Universal Pictures will release the sequel worldwide in 3D. No release date is set for the movie just yet.

Earlier this year, del Toro convinced the movie fans that "Pacific Rim 2" wasn't dead amid rumors that the project was aborted. He tweeted, "It's still going and I'll remain w it in one way or another!" He was attached as a director at the time.

DeKnight most recently served as executive producer on Netflix and Marvel's series "Daredevil".
