The 'Silicon Valley' star, who is hosting the January 17 ceremony, points out that he's nothing like Gervais who mocked Mel Gibson among others at the Golden Globe Awards.

AceShowbiz - The jokester now becomes the victim. Following Ricky Gervais' much criticized jokes at the Golden Globe Awards last week, T.J. Miller took aim at the British comedian for his offensive jokes when hosting the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards on Sunday, January 17.

The "Silicon Valley" star made it clear that he's not going to go to the Gervais route in hosting the awards show. He particularly made issue with Gervais' joke about Mel Gibson. "How abrasive do you have to be to make us feel bad for Mel Gibson?" he quipped.

At the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, Gervais mocked Gibson when introducing him as presenter. "I'm in the awkward position of having to introduce him again," Gervais said of Gibson. "Listen, I'm sure it's embarrassing for both of us. I blame NBC for this terrible situation. Mel blames ... we know who Mel blames. Listen, I still feel a bit bad for it. Mel's forgotten all about it apparently, that's what drinking does. I want to say something nice about Mel before he comes out. So: I'd rather have a drink with him in his hotel room tonight than with Bill Cosby."

Gervais, who took aim at Hollywood during his monologue at the January 10 ceremony, was also criticized for poking fun at Caitlyn Jenner. "What a year she's had. She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes," he said before taking a jab at her over the fatal car accident that involved her. "She didn't do a lot for women drivers, but you can't have everything, can ya?"

Miller, on the other hand, decided to pay tribute to the year's best films such as "Straight Outta Compton" and "Mad Max: Fury Road" in his opening monologue at the Critics' Choice Awards.
