Benicio Del Toro Won't Return for 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2'

The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' actor says he won't reprise his role as Taneleer Tivan a.k.a. The Collector in the second installment of the sci-fi movie series.

AceShowbiz - With "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" slated to begin production next month in Atlanta, several actors who previously starred in "Guardians of the Galaxy" have confirmed that they will return to reprise their respective roles. However, there is one actor who may not return for the sequel, and it's Benicio Del Toro.

Despite promises that he would take part in some future projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Del Toro recently stated he would not return to reprise his role as Taneleer Tivan a.k.a. The Collector in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2". "I don't think so," Del Toro said of his involvement in the sequel to "Guardians of the Galaxy". "They would've told me, I hope."

This contradicts Zoe Saldana's recent statement when she congratulated Del Toro for his performance in "Sicario". "See you on 'Guardians!' " Saldana said.

Del Toro's exclusion from the planned sequel may be due to a scheduling conflict. He has been attached to star in "Star Wars Episode VIII", reportedly taking a major role as the movie's villain.

The sci-fi movie is scheduled to start principal photography at Pinewood Studios in London later this month, but Del Toro previously hinted that he wouldn't start filming his part until March. With "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" starting production in February, there wouldn't be enough time for the actor to put in an appearance.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" brings back Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. Pom Klementieff is also in the cast reportedly to play Mantis. The sequel is scheduled for a U.S. release on May 5, 2017.
