AceShowbiz - Matthew McConaughey joins a battlefield in the first trailer for "Free State of Jones". The Academy Award-winning actor plays Newton Knight, an American farmer who turned to be one of the best known rebel leaders in Civil War history.
Once a confederate soldier, Knight turns against the Confederacy after witnessing one too many pointless deaths. He goes rogue and leads other small farmers and local slaves in an attempt to create a Free State of Jones in the area around Jones County, Mississippi.
Written and directed by four-time Oscar nominee Gary Ross, "Free State of Jones" is an epic action-drama set during the Civil War and based on a true story. It also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali and Jacob Lofland among others.
The movie will arrive in theaters across the nation on May 13.
