The actor, who has a recurring role on comedy series 'Girls', will be the first host of 'Saturday Night Live' in 2016.

AceShowbiz - Adam Driver will be a strong force to awaken "Saturday Night Live" after the show takes a winter break. The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor would host the January 16 episode of "SNL", so it was announced during Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's episode on Saturday, December 19.

No musical guest to accompany Driver is announced yet. This would be Driver's first time hosting the show. The 32-year-old actor has had an experience in comedy after recurring as Lena Dunham's on-/off-boyfriend on HBO's "Girls".

The "SNL" gig was sure to crank up viewership due to Driver's involvement with the "Star Wars" franchise. "The Force Awakens" opened in U.S. theaters Friday, December 18 and is earning an estimated $238 million in its first weekend. The film will still be a presence in January because it won't open in other countries such as China until next year.

Driver's appearance on "SNL" will also coincide the premiere of "Girls" season 5 on February 21.
