More than 2,500 actors have reportedly auditioned to take over Harrison Ford's iconic role that will appear in still-untitled 'Star Wars' anthology film.

AceShowbiz - Casting on Lucasfilm's untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II is officially underway. Casting director Jeanne McCarthy (the "21 Jump Street" films) is responsible for what is being described as "the widest casting search ever." More than 2,500 actors have auditioned to take over Harrison Ford's iconic role, Han Solo.

Although producer Kathleen Kennedy previously said that the character would be in his "high teens, low 20s," the candidates range from 16 through 34. Actors who have read in person or auditioned by tape range from the well-known, like Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Avengers: Age of Ultron", age 25), Miles Teller ("The Fantastic Four", age 28), Hunter Parrish ("Weeds", age 28), and Dave Franco ("21 Jump Street", age 30), to the sort-of known, such as Nick Robinson ("Jurassic World", age 20) and Logan Lerman ("Fury", age 23).

Several lesser known actors, like Chandler Riggs ("The Walking Dead", age 16), Leo Howard ("Kickin" It", age 18), Jack Reynor ("Transformers: Age of Extinction", age 23), Landon Liboiron ("Hemlock Grove", age 23) and Tony Oller ("The Purge", age 24), have also taken part in the audition.

Other names under consideration include Colton Haynes ("Teen Wolf", age 27) and Max Thieriot ("Bates Motel", age 27) as well as English actors Ed Westwick ("Gossip Girl", age 28), Tom Felton (the "Harry Potter" films, age 28) and Joshua Sasse ("Galavant", age 27). Since Han Solo has to be naturally funny and charming, The Hollywood Reporter suggests that young comedians have also been asked to read for the part.

The anthology film is set to begin filming in 2017. The screenplay for the Han Solo movie is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan and will focus on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley. Directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the Star Wars movie is slated to be released stateside on May 25, 2018.
