See the First Photo of Liam Neeson in 'Silence'
Movie

Paramount Pictures has released a new photo of the upcoming movie which gives a first look at the 63-year-old actor in character as a Jesuit.

AceShowbiz - Following the first look at Andrew Garfield in Martin Scorsese's "Silence", a new photo of the drama movie has arrived online. The image provides a first glimpse at Liam Neeson as a Jesuit missionary.

The photo captures Neeson's character staring at the sky while wearing a dirty white shirt with disheveled hair. He is seen standing in front of a Japanese man in a rocky foggy area.

According to Neeson, portraying the character was challenging, because he had to lose 20 pounds to approach the actual look of the figure he plays. The 63-year-old actor also revealed some obstacles they encountered during the production. On the first day of principal photography, the filming location in Taipei was hit by a 6.1 earthquake and his 15th floor hotel room began to shake.

In a recent interview at the Los Cabos Film Festival, Neeson also talked about how it was like to work with Scorsese. "Who's going to turn down a job with Martin Scorsese? He's a very special director and for actors he's exceptional," Neeson said.

He also explained that the director was a perfectionist and required silence on the set. "His level of concentration and focus, what he prepares for the actors before you come on set is just wonderful. He gives 200 percent. All he requires is that you give 100 percent. He's intimidating. He requires absolute silence on the set - if he hears one tiny sound, it shatters it for him," he added.

Neeson plays Fr. Cristovao Ferreira while Garfield portrays Sebastiao Rodrigues. "Silence" is based on Shusaku Endo's book of the same name which centers on young Portuguese Jesuit Rodrigues who is sent to Japan to succor the local Church and investigate reports that his mentor, Ferreira, has committed apostasy.

Tadanobu Asano, Adam Driver and Issei Ogata are also in the cast. There is no official release date just yet, but the drama is expected to arrive in North America in 2016.
