AceShowbiz - Adele's 2011 album "21" is greatly lauded by Billboard magazine, being named the greatest album of all time. The Grammy-winning release won over "The Sound of Music" soundtrack which came in second position.

Adele released her second studio album in February 2011 in the U.S. and it went straight to number one, thanks to such hit singles as "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You". It spent 24 weeks on the top position of the albums chart and 78 weeks in the top 10, the most weeks for an album by a woman.

Adele will release the follow-up to "21", titled "25", on November 20. The first single "Hello" has raided the charts and broken records for digital sales and music video views.

The best album ranking is based on chart positions dating to 1963. "The Sound of Music" album spent two weeks at No. 1 on the weekly Billboard 200, and earned a record 109 weeks in the top 10. The classic movie starring Julie Andrews is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Billboard also unveiled the top all-time act list. The Beatles triumphed over The Rolling Stones, bolstered by the band's record 19 No. 1s which spent 132 weeks atop the list. With so many hit singles, Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" strangely leads the band's other albums at number 54 in the all-time great album list. The 1967 album spent only 15 weeks at the top of the chart.

Taylor Swift is also noted in the greatest act ranking mainly because she was the only act among the all-time top 30 to have started a chart career since 2000. The country singer, who has had four number 1 albums, is placed number 8.
