The Canadian singer beats One Direction who set the same Spotify record a few weeks ago after their surprise single 'Drag Me Down' was streamed 20 million times in its first week.

AceShowbiz - Justin Bieber's comeback single "What Do You Mean" has set a new Spotify record for most streams in a first week. It's reported on Thursday, September 3 that the track was played more than 21 million times globally in just five days after its release on October 28.

Bieber broke the record previously held by One Direction with their "Drag Me Down". The song which the British/Irish group dropped without prior notice in late July notched 20 million streams in its debut week.

"What Do You Mean" serves as the first offering from Bieber's new album that's due out on November 13. The 21-year-old superstar broke down in tears while performing the track for the first time during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards last weekend.

He then explained the emotional performance while visiting "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday, September 2. "It was so overwhelming," he said. "I missed some cues so I was a bit disappointed about that. But just the support... I didn't expect them to support me in the way they did. Last time I was at an awards show, I was booed."
