'Star Trek Beyond' Casts 'Fast and Furious 6' Star Joe Taslim

Details of the Indonesia-born actor/martial artist's role in the upcoming film are still kept under wraps, but it's reported that his character is closely connected to Idris Elba's.

AceShowbiz - Joe Taslim is the latest name joining "Star Trek Beyond". According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Fast and Furious 6" star has been added to the cast of the next installment in the sci-fi movie franchise.

Taslim's role is currently unknown, but the site says his character will be closely connected to Idris Elba's villainous character. In addition to the sixth "Fast and Furious" film, the Indonesia-born actor and martial artist has starred in "The Raid: Redemption".

The production of "Star Trek Beyond" is currently underway in Vancouver. Directed by Justin Lin based on a script co-written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, the film is scheduled for release in the U.S. on July 8, 2016.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban and John Cho are back to reprise their roles from the last two "Star Trek" flicks as Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Scotty, Chekov, Bones and Sulu respectively. Sofia Boutella will be among new cast members.
