Freddie Highmore Would Love to Be the Next Spider-Man
Movie

The 'Bates Motel' star is open to the possibility of him playing the webslinger in the upcoming reboot movie.

AceShowbiz - Freddie Highmore has thrown himself in the ring for the potential new Spider-Man depicter. Since Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios officially announced plans to reboot the franchise, no actor has been confirmed to step in Andrew Garfield's shoes.

In an interview with IGN, Highmore who is now headlining A&E's "Bates Motel" expresses his interest to take the superhero role. "Obviously I would love to be considered," he says. "That would be fantastic. I guess we'll just see how things go."

He says that he's not aware of online talks about the matter since he stays off Twitter and that he hasn't been personally "stoking any fires" himself, but adds that he would love to play Spidey.

"You always feel like you can identify with him," the young British actor says of the character's appeal. "He's that kind of guy at school who wasn't perhaps in the really cool group, but who was extremely intelligent and managed to find confidence in being Spider-Man - in this other side to his life."

Asked if he has any hesitation about starring in a big franchise like Spider-Man, Highmore replies, "I guess that's always something you would think about. At the same time it would be such a fantastic role... As with Norman Bates, some people would always say, 'Oh, is it tricky playing Norman knowing he has this history behind him, and with Anthony Perkins' classic performance that you will always be compared to?' I guess similarly with the actor who ends up playing Spider-Man there will always be comparisons made with Tobey Maguire's great performance and most recently Andrew Garfield."

The untitled new Spider-Man movie reportedly eyes Drew Goddard as a writer and director. Dylan O'Brien and Logan Lerman have been linked to the lead role. Words are, the webslinger will appear in "Captain America: Civil War" first before getting his own movie.
