Aretha Franklin to Perform and Mentor on 'American Idol' Detroit Live Shows

The particular episodes, set to be tapped at the Fillmore Detroit on March 4 and 5, will see the semifinalists being cut down from 24 to 16.

AceShowbiz - Aretha Franklin is heading to "American Idol" as both performer and guest mentor. The so-called Queen of Soul has been tapped to join the show's live Motown-themed episodes in Detroit next week, representatives for Fox have confirmed. It was not mentioned though what song(s) she would be performing.

The particular episodes will be taped on Wednesday and Thursday, March 4 and 5 respectively at the Fillmore Detroit. Next week's episodes will cut the semifinalists down from 24 to 16. Four more contestants would be cut down from the reality singing competition before it heads back to Los Angeles to begin its live episodes on March 11.

Appearing on "Idol", in fact, isn't something new for Franklin. Back in 2013, she appeared on the show's finale via satellite. Besides, she was once considered as a potential judge in 2012.

In other Franklin's news, the 72-year-old music star has previously revealed plans to headline a concert at Heinz Hall, Downtown, on April 21. Tickets for the show will go on sale beginning from Friday, February 27 at 10 A.M.
